- Only relatives connected to you through confirmed family relationships can see your profile.

- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
Who we are
Family Clan ("we", "us") is operated by [Legal entity name], [registered address], India. This policy explains what information the Family Clan app and thefamilyclan.com collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to meet India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Rules.
What we collect
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Mobile number | To sign you in with a one-time code, and so relatives who have your number can find and connect with you. |
| Profile: name, gender, date of birth, photo, profession, skills, city and state | So your family can recognise you and find you when they need help. Only your city is saved, never your exact location. Your date of birth is used for birthday reminders; relatives see the day and month, not the year. |
| Family relationships you add or confirm, and relatives you add who aren't on the app (name, and optionally their mobile number) | To build your family tree and work out who can see whom. A relative's number is used to invite them and to let them claim their place when they join. |
| Needs and replies you post, connect requests | To ask your family for help and connect you with relatives. Mobile numbers are shared between two people only after both accept a connect request. |
| Clan Archive stories, photos and voice notes | To keep them for your family. Shown only to your family. |
| Family calendar: wedding dates, remembrance days, events and who's going | To show upcoming family dates and send reminders on the day. |
| Family health history (conditions you add about yourself or close relatives) | To help you and your family know what runs in the family. See "Health information" below. |
| Contacts (only if you choose "Find family in my contacts") | Your contacts stay on your phone. The app sends only a scrambled code (a one-way hash) of each number to check which belong to people on Family Clan. We don't store those codes; we keep only a daily count to prevent abuse. |
| Device notification token and time zone | To send notifications, and to respect quiet hours (10 pm to 7 am) in your time zone. |
| Reports, vouches, blocks and feedback | To keep the community safe and improve the app. Feedback includes your app version and phone type. |
We don't collect your exact location, your messages outside the app, or your contacts list itself. We don't use advertising or analytics trackers on thefamilyclan.com.
Health information
Health history is sensitive, so it has extra protection:
- Each entry is visible only to whom its author chooses: only themselves, close family (parents, children, siblings), or blood relatives.
- In-laws and relatives by marriage never see health entries.
- Health entries are never sent as notifications.
- You can change who sees an entry, or delete it, at any time.
Who can see your information
Family Clan is not a public network. Relatives see you only when a chain of confirmed relationships connects you, limited by your plan (blood relatives plus one marriage away on the free plan). People you block, and their side of the family, stop seeing you. Your mobile number is shown to another person only after you both accept a connect request.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Family Clan. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in Mumbai, India.
- Our API servers in India.
- ValueFirst: sending sign-in codes by SMS.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: delivering notifications.
- Expo: delivering app updates.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if Indian law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account (Settings, then Delete account):
- Your profile, mobile number, photo, the needs, memories, events and health entries you added, and your login are deleted.
- Your name stays in your family's tree as a relative who isn't on the app, so the links between your relatives don't break. The close relative who looks after it can remove it.
- Memories and health entries that others added about you stay with them; they can delete them.
- Feedback you sent is kept without your name.
Your rights
You can access and correct your information in the app at any time, delete your account, and withdraw consent (for example, turn off notifications or stop contact matching). To ask for a copy of your data, raise a concern, or nominate someone to exercise your rights if you can't, contact our Grievance Officer below. We respond within the time limits set by law.
Children
Family Clan is for people aged [minimum age, e.g. 18] and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Photos and voice notes are kept in private storage and shown only through short-lived links. Access to our systems is restricted to the people who need it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
